Hello Warren
I currently use the method or at least very similar that you mention and it is a valid fix.
But I still think it is something that needs to be CAM based rather than CAD based.
If a customer supplies a CAD file I rather not have to edit it just to add tabs but rather do it in Vcarve.
also if you need to modify the tab i can see a right mess in having redo the dxf file and import it, revector, regenerate toolpaths.....Etc etc.
Regards
Bart

Scripting
I'd like the ability to write a script so that I can automate importing, sizing, centering, V-Carve toolpathing, and saving of previews. At the very least a keyboard shortcut for each operation would be handy.

Fill preview by tool path
My wish fo rthe wish list is --- I would like to have a fills be able to be defined for each tool path rather than all or nothing. Or put another way I would like to have a fill preview for say an engraved logo but not for the chamfer around the piece. Or can this be done now and I haven't figured it out?
I would like to be able to print out a job sheet, one that would have all the toolpath details in it, a simple text file would be ok but even better if it could include a scaled drawing and have a place for notes. That way we could save the file for output and have a reference sheet for the job jacket.
Seperate fill colors for tool paths and possible to rotate the orientation of the drawing for design without changing the toolpaths for preview.

Ditto all of the above.
In addition I would like to see ..
1> Import of DXF files with 3D faces..or even STL files and generation of toolpaths for them.
2> A 'select all' and 'Select None' button in the toolpath list. It gets pretty tiring when you have to select/unselect each toolpath.
3> Fix the rotate problem with the 3D Machininst imports. The vector rotates, but not the graysclae image. Makes for a messy looking layout.
4> Maybe a nesting function?
..otherwise...VCarve TEAM ...you ROCK!

Tony, Brian,
I had a project that involved a lot of text. It had 29 sets of names and letters, (example... #31 -and- K. St. Pierre ) for a total of 427 characters.
I got the list from the customer. I was able to do the copy into the text editor with a perfect match. The problem I had was that each set of names and each set of letters had to be engraved on their own name plate. So I wasn't able to copy and past the whole group of names. As this grouped all of the names and letters in one block. I could scale to size, but I could drag each individual name or number set where I needed them to be. The only way I was able to do this was to copy each set of names seperate and then each set of numbers
For future releases would it be possible to have each line its own grouped entity? or each individual word or set of letters its own group? Hope I made sense.
