Did anyone cut Styrodur?

Post by Sentinel »

I wonder if anyone has tried cutting Styrodur?

I am having trouble finding materials here, so I am trying to see what could I possibly use. I heard from some people that sign-makers do use Styrodur sometimes, but I'd rather check with you guys first :)

Any ideas about toxicity of this thing?

Thanks.

I want to ask the same questions...
I have (for 1 year) tried to find a source for that material in Sweden or Europe but without success :(

EDIT: Hmm.. maybe I was to fast.. I have been looking for Signfoam

Komacel = Signfoam?

Post by zoltan »

I did not see Signfoam only in the pictures but it seems to me that it is the same material like Komacel which can be found in Europe in many versions of density and structure. Is there someone who knows both and can confirm? I made trials with komacel, there are some others commercials names in Europe but the material is the same, and it is very nice for carving. I am planning when I start my business to use it. I promise since long time ago to post pictures of my trials or samples but always I said to wait until I am really able to show something interesting. In few days I will post as now maybe I have nothing interesting but I have a lot of trials and samples made.

I beleive Komacel is expanded pvc - also known as komatex or syntra. Signfoam is HDU - high density urathane.
