Introduction

Post by Davidh »

'evening everyone,

New V carve user, I thought it would be good manners to introduce myself. David from Ireland. Using a home made router table. I make mostly scrap, my bin has the dents to prove it  .

A pic of my first V carve cut. I had to tell the tool list some lies to make it run as my tool was larger at the tip than it should have been. Text is 5mm high, Stick40 font would have sufficed if I was able to make spaces! I doubt Betty, pushing fifty, will notice.

Good forum, it has been lots of help to me, both for Vcarve and general practice tips.

My second job is much more impressive but my pic is not worth posting.

BFN David

Failte David,

You will find this a very friendly and extremely helpful forum and the best CAM software around.

What part of Ireland are you? I spend a great deal of time in Kerry.

Enjoy yourself

Hello David. Nice to meet you.
Must say that part you cut is very clean and tidy.
I wish my first cut came out that well, What cutter where you using.
Regards
Bart

@Paul What part of Ireland are you? Belfast, not much to blow about!

@Bart I wish my first cut came out that well, not my first cut but my first with V carve.

What cutter where you using. A homemade carbide engraving cutter, 0.5mm bottom.
It took me a while to figure out the best (for me) method for engraving soft metals. Clogging/rewelding was a big problem. I cover the work with engine oil and let the cut occur submerged, The chips float right out, the oil is heavy enough to sit there without spraying all over me. I tried aerosol cutting fluid which worked but it flew everywhere and required constant re application.

Hope this helps someone.
