Program to generate wavy panels

Post by PaulRowntree »

Greetings All;
Over the past year I have been working on a program to create wavy panels for cutting on my cnc. The textures that interested me were like the ripples of sand underwater at the beach. These textures can be wrapped, laid on flat, or even Warped. On the off-chance that someone else could also use this program, for fun or for profit, Standing Waves is available for free download from PaulRowntree.weebly.com

The program works by generating 2 or 3 EPS files of overlapping 'sausages', extending out along X. You can adjust the parameters that control the shapes and randomness of these sausages. You can preview these sausage files on screen without going through VCP. Then load up the 2 or 3 EPS files into VCP or Aspire, V-Carve them with a ball-nosed bit (1" works well), and you are away. The panels can be any size, and they are periodic in X and Y so they can make larger murals if you want. The patterns can be controlled, and you can exactly recreate any panel in the future by keying in some parameters (that are also saved to disk for you when you create the EPS files). Any number of similar, but different, panels can be created with a click.

The download zip file has the executable, a manual and some sample files to get started.

Cheers!

Thanks
I will certainly give that a try to produce some background textures
Even though you are on the right track - you will get run over if you just sit there.

Thanks, Paul. A while back I had tried to model waves, but yours looks much better.

Thank you very much Paul, but is there any chance of an option for the metrically inclined?

Folks, I am delighted that you are trying it out! You are more than welcome. If you make something cool with it, please post it.

Norbert, my apologies. When I step into the garage, my mind stops working in metric. I will look into this. It shouldn't be too tough.

Hi Jim;

I have been a bit self-conscious about posting the PP link. I will be providing updated versions of WarpDriver and StandingWaves ''Real Soon Now'' (thanks Jerry Pournelle), and the link will be up then (always voluntary). So if you can think of changes or improvements, now is a good time to let me know.
Cheers!
