Why not perform the Top down cuts, then turn the piece onto it's side and finish the Canoe shape?
Or visa-versa

Hi Phil. That was my plan. I was hoping to get a little help with my fluting technique/results. It appears that I have a ridge (not step over marks), that I am not sure how to get rid of.
Thanks
Dave

Decreasing the step over didn't help much.
Possibly a 2" diameter Bowl Bit, and make 1 pass....

Certainly a Challenge.
I will try a few things tonight.

Here is another way to accomplish it. You will have to sand the ends to get them rounded though.

Thanks Euan. The fluting looks smoother.

Almost got it. Tried a carving in styrofoam first, and I scaled it to fit, but I forgot to scale on part which resulted in the ends of the canoe not coming to a point on the top. No big deal. I ended up not using fluting. I cut the side profile out first and then turned it face up to do the pocket and outside profile cut. My original intent was not to have to flip it, but fluting would have taken much longer. Total machine time of less that 13 min.

Thanks for the suggestions.
