Ring Box

Thought I would try something small. This ring box is 1.5 x 1.5 inches. Both halves are 3/4in material. My wife wanted a few for christmas gifts (daughters love jewelry) So now I have many to get done before Christmas now.

Thanks guys for the kind words, I will stain / apply a clear poly on a few others will leave natural with a clear poly. Made the mistake and showed off these to my brother in law now more is needed. They will make great gifts. Happy cutting!

That is a cool little box. I don't think I've seen that design cut so small before. It actually holds up design-wise. I wonder if you should rub a little stain into the recesses and off; just to enhance the carving a little.

Great design! Can you tell me how you incorporate the hearts that are 3-D? I thought you could only do that if you had Aspire?

Mick,
You can use the Free 3D Machinist with any of VectorArt3D files.
Once you create the tool path, save the file, then you can import the file in to Cut2D or Vcarve Pro

The current version of 3D Machinist will not create files that open in Cut2D, if you want to combine the 3D in 2D you need the old version which you can get from me if you drop me an email and I can send the link: jab (@) carve3d ( dot) com

Attached is a few more of the ring boxes, some stained no clear coat yet. Some of the the images were done in PhotoVcarve. I drew the cross in my cad program then saved as a bitmap, sent to paint added some color for height. The Budda was an image I found on the net, the flowers are from VectorArt 3d. Those were generated in the old machinist program to send to Cut2d. I like the new program with the addition of resizing in different directions but like to be able to send to cut2d The Budda was cut with 60deg engraving bit from Bits&Bits dot com. The step over was 2%. Can't remember how long it took to run but the detail was worth it. All others were done with 1/16 ball nose at 6% step over if memory serve me correctly. (done so many different projects lately can't remember all)

I should have mentioned I'm currently running V-carve pro.....So is it the same process?

it should be the same as cut2d, but don't take my word for it. i am not familiar with VcarvePro. (only have cut2d, photovcarve plus 3d machinist from vectorart3d) the models are imported into cut2d after saving a model/gcode. (I use the old 3d machinist program. But if I use the new one I set perimeters for the size of project. One of many things I like about the Vectric programs is ease of use.
