A few bit and pieces

Post by byron »

Hi folks,

I have been using cut2d for a few months now. The parts were cut on a Syil Sx3.
Milling is a completely new game for me, so any comments and sugestions regarding finish are more than welcome.

Most of the parts I cut are Aluminium, and on occasion, Acetal POMc

Looks like you've got a really good handle on your aluminum and plastic work.
Finish also looks good. Great Job.

Hi Byron,
Great looking parts you have made with your SX3! The finish looks very good for the most part on your parts! I can see the pass layers on the side of the thick part, but I am also usually seeing those pass marks on the edges of my parts. I think if needed we could implement a seperate 'finish' pass in our toolpaths to elimnate those marks, but for most items it is not necessary. I too am using the Syil SX3 and I just got my spindle back into working order last weekend. Thanks for posting the pictures for us to see, and keep them coming!
Best regards,
Wes

Hi Matelworx,

The layering seen on the 25mm Sq Aluminium part is not "layering" as such. It was cut using a 12mm roughing end mill. The spindle was spun up to 3200 RPM and was fed through the material using a pass depth of 3mm at a fedd rate of 80mm / minute. Total cutting time, excluding holes, was just under half an hour. I did include a "finish" pass, if you can call it that with that type of tool. I had to make 12 off, and the finish was not that important, so I opted to use the roughing tool only, to try and save a little time. It is an electrical connector component. No Idea what it really does, my customer supplied the drawings. I can say, that I did under quote. I didn't figure it would take almost an hour to produce one part.
