Russian Celtic Cross

Post by hz6b9k »

Just wanted to show off my most recent creation. It also shows what can be done in 2D with this great software! It isn't finished yet; I still have to cut it out. It was cut in Cherry wood using a 0.5mm double spiral fluted carbide end mill. The cut depth was 0.02" at a speed of 10 ipm. I use a dremel as a spindle in a homemade cnc table. Happy cutting everybody!

That looks fantastic. :) Why didn't you cut it out on the machine?

Thanks much! All the work was done with a 0.5mm cutter. That cutter can't go deep enough even with multiple passes. I could have changed cutters and cut it out, but I've found it is faster and easier to just use a scroll saw to cut the final shape out. With a scroll saw I have very smooth sides and no need to sand. Also, with a fine scroll saw blade I can have sharp inside corners where a router bit will always radius inside corners to the size of the bit.
