Wooden rack for 12" Dial Caliper (Mitutoyo)

Post by metalworkz »

It doesn't look too great, but I started on a wooden rack for my 12" dial calipers to use on the bench top. The depth to cradle the calipers is complete and I have added a relieved area near the center of gravity for grabbing the beam. I will engrave my name below the beam at the right side in a tribal font. It looks real 'plain' and the wood is kind of rough so I thought I could put some engraving in several of the blank spots before I do any finishing. Long as I have an inclinable caliper rack that looks half way decent when I get done I will be satisfied. I did not want to surface the wood, but it would have been better for engraving. Take a look.

Very nice, its photos like these that make you realize the possibilities of using a program such as cut2d...

Thanks for posting your images. Its gave me the idea of making a set of wooden calipers. But just don't have time, will have to leave it on the back burner.
Thanks again ..

Here is a picture of the finished dial caliper rack. I have hinged some legs on the back side so I can recline the rack to about 45°, and they fold up flush so I can lay the rack flat on the benchtop also.
