Single line font

Post by Jam Laird »

Hi, i'm new to the forum and new to this software (I bought it on saturday) I am really happy with it but would love to know if anyone or anywhere has a single line font i can use.

I have got Stick 40 on the system but it's not really any good, I need something like Helvetica 1L or Gothic 1L

I am aware that these are available on V-carve but i just don't have the funds available yet to upgrade.

Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Regards

James

Have fun

There doesn't seem to be much out there for line fonts.
I think you have NCplot stick font http://www.ncplot.com/

I have used StickFont but found DeskEngrave to be easier to use.
Whatever works best for you - that's why Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors!

DeskEngrave

Both StickFont and DeskEngrave are FREE - so get both, while the price is right, and try them out.

Ok, so I have tried out ncplot, i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong but I can only save the text with a "nc" type file extension which I can't open in Cut2D.

I have searched for hours on the internet but I just can't seem to find a single line font that I can download :(

Thanks to all for the help.

Good luck on your search for a single line font that will work in Cut2D. As far as I know, not many have found any that will work. One of the problems is that Cut2D doesn't like open vectors very well. When I want a line to appear as one line I have to make a rectangle .002" wide and close it.

As far as I can tell, there are no upgrades to Cut2D in the works. The upgrade to V Carve Pro is about $480 and that is what it is going to take to cut single line fonts. Not what you wanted to hear, but that is the reality of it.

Good luck on your search

The problem for single line fonts is that the True Type font specification does not support open lines. True Type was designed as a font format for printing and all the outlines have to be closed vectors to meet the specification. The single line fonts supplied with VCarve Pro are a proprietary format we developed to allow use to support single line fonts. As far as I am aware there is no ‘standard’ file format for complex single line fonts which can include beziers, kerning tables etc in their definition.

Cool, thanks everyone, I have found a Helvetica font which is closed vector and very thin so this will be ok for now (untill I can afford V-carve)

Just for information, I came across a company in germany called CNC plus and they sell a software cd with 17 true type single line fonts for £70 plus shipping but as I could not find any reviews or knew if it was compatible with Cut2D I thought the money would be better put aside for the upgrade.

Thanks again for all the help

Their web site shows 75 eu, that about $93 for us in the US. They might be worth that if they worked with Cut2D and Vcarve Pro. If you do decide to get them, please report back here.

Thanks

Wow, the Gothic one works very well, just a little bit of node editing needed but by far the best thing i've seen, I will be using this alot, thank you very much.

I found a place, http://www.digitaldesignware.com , that also has engraving fonts. They also have 17 fonts and I can't tell if they are the same. They also have one for DL and trial to see if it will work with your software. I did that and it will work with Cut2D, they are TT fonts. The down side is that it costs $104 US. So for my money I will get VCarve pro for an additional $376 US and get about 30 or so engraving fonts built in. It might be necessary to buy the fonts from digital design ware as well, but I'll wait and see.
