It doesn't actually smooth out the steps. It gives you a more consistent (smoother) step pulse stream, but shouldn't really affect cut quality.

Then what exactly is the use of the Smooth Steper set up? I saw it and thought that was what it was for. :oops:

I don't know if this is applicable but when we first set up my new machine I found a solution for jerky motion at the Mach 3 discussion forum.

We thought we had bad controllers, motors or both.

I am using Mach 3 for a CNC 9000.

The following is what was suggested on the Mach 3 forum.

Set Computer to Standard PC NOT ACPI PC

1. Right Click My Computer and select Properties
2. Click Hardware tab.
3. Click Device Manager Button in the middle.
4. Double click "Computer".
5. Right click on Standard ACPI PC and choose Update Driver.
6. Choose "Install the software from a Specific Location (Advanced)"
7. Click Next.
8. Choose "Don't search. I will choose driver to install."
9. Click Next.
10. Choose "Standard PC" from the listing.
11. Click Next.
12. Click OK.

I made this change on the computer and it all worked great after that.
