Pocketing toolpath option needed or missed

Post by Dirk1000 »

I have been pocketing quite extensively in MDF. I prefer to use offset over raster when toolpathing. My problem arises as the pocketing toolpath will divide up the area and leave thin strips that break off before it's cut. This can leave dimples that can require quite a bit of sanding. Am I missing an option? It would be great if the toolpath would cut from one side to the other and just make dust. The strips also clog up the dust collection and make a mess.

Hi Dirk,
The only other thing in Cut2D for offset pocketing that might help is the stepover in the cutting parameters. Have you tried the Rastar pocketing as it offers a profile pass and you can change the rastar angle to see if it will help?
Best regards,

Thanks Wes

I'll try the Raster. Looking for speed as we're in large production. Maybe tweaking some ramps will help to get the z to move fast enough. I'm hoping future releases of software could address this problem. I may also try manually toolpathing.
I must say however I love the software overall.

Just a note
The raster toolpath solved most of the sticks coming off, was pretty fast and solved the problem. I do like the look of offsetsa better, but this is good for now

Thanks
Dirk

Hi Dirk,
I'm glad the rastar toolpath worked better for you.
