Hi, I'm new to CNC and to this forum -
We are routing kitchen sides and components from 18mm MFC
We have tried a Trend Rotatip which was ok for a few passes

Now have a 10mm Compression from Wealden which is better, but looking for advice -

Spindle speed? Feed speed? Climb or Conventional?
We were going in 10mm and then 8.1mm and ramping in, but always get burn on the ramp in - any advice there?
Should we do the cut and then have an offset so it takes a 1mm off final cut?

Any advice/guidelines would be much appreciated

I'm assuming you're not using Cut3D for this? Might be better to post in the VCarve, Aspire or Cut2D section (depending which software you have) to get more responses.

Look up the chip loading for the material/bit combination (https://www.cutter-shop.com/information ... chart.html for example) and tweak from there. With the spiral bits it's pretty easy to tell if you're running too high on the RPM's or feeding too slowly as they will squeal like crazy.

The burn on the ramp will probably be from the feed rate being too slow as it contains Z movement.

What's MFC?

What HP is your spindle?

If you have a 10HP spindle or more, then 700ipm at 18,000 rpm. I tend to ramp in at about 500ipm.

Yup. I had to look that up myself. My first guess of "Manulife Finanacial Corporation" was wrong. Apparently it's "melamine faced chipboard".

A few more acronyms and my head is gonna explode!

My head exploded whenever I see someone here mentioning that they did a PVC cut. My first thought is oh, they cut some PVC (polyvinyl chloride) not they used PVC (PhotoVCarve) to cut some material.

I don't like accronyms.

It is assumed that they are common language but I don't understand them.

When Acronyms or abbreviations are used a lot - I just ignore the post.

Stay away from the Army or other military... the acronym gurus will beat you up every time with confusion and they love it! And do be careful "who" you ask what certain acronyms mean. They tend to get offended if you have the audacity to just ask what some mean. lol. I've had 14 years of the Army.. so I am familiar. Tough one is when they use the same acronym several times in the same sentence, and each have a different meaning. The Army did provide a monthly magazine (Preventive Maintenance) with cartoons pics and deciphered many acronyms for help... lol.
