Michael, I was obviously not clear as Vectric support made the same answer.

For me, the bug is that Aspire calculates the toolpath with a 6 mm end mill and this overlapping vector.

I had not seen/heard of this feature before.

It appears to show the problem, but one has to know what one is looking for. Nor sure I would have found it .....
I will know for next time.
Thanks.

Yes, you do need to know how to interpret the results. The legend helps (i.e., the "0, +, =" symbols show you what each means).

Also, under the Edit Menu is the function to Select All Open Vectors. That would have identified the undesirable open perimeter vector, then you would know to take a closer look at that vector to see and eliminate the problem (delete the overlap and close the vector after that).

We pretty much have all the tools necessary to find vector problems. I guess it's a matter of getting comfortable with those tools.

One thing to keep in mind when running into "strange" toolpath issues...check the vectors. "Bad vectors" are often the root cause of any "strangeness".

Below is a link to a (long) video. Many of the features introduced in version 9 software are covered. At about the 21 minute mark, Beki demonstrates the Vector Validator feature.

Yes! Good to learn - it’s a constant process for all of us.

When you have time, watch that video I linked to above. Not only for the demo of the Vector Validator, but for all the other features introduced in version 9 you may find handy.

Here is another (more in-depth) video about working with imported vectors and the Vector Validator Tool. Also includes good info regarding drag-n-drop vector importing (showing how your mouse cursor tip designates the center location of the vector import itself) and smoothing vectors that are comprised of "zillions" of straight lines.
