Hi,
Is there a way to place my tool and other databases on my home network server and have that be the one which opens from within the program? Like many other users, I have a laptop for use in the house and my main computer out in my shop. I have Cut2D installed on both computers but of course I only use one at a time. It would be nice to start a project out in the shop, and then be able to pick it up in the house later on and continue working on it. I know I can store the actual work file on the server but I'm talking about the tool database and so forth.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Using shared network drives for storage
Dear dskowron
Like you I like to be able to work on a 'project' where ever I am, on different machines. I don't use the network I use a cloud so I can access files from where ever I am.
My work-around for not being able to move the 'application folder' is to keep a copy of my latest tools.tool_db in the cloud and then [File] [Open Application Data Folder..] and drop this file there, overwriting the old one. After 10 or so years I'm not adding much to this database so don't need to update often.
Anyway no doubt others will have their ideas, good luck.
Sincerely and in good faith
Martin

Re: Using shared network drives for storage
I suppose it would be easy enough to just keep two copies of the tool database. It's not like I have that many to choose from anyway. Being able to keep my work files and toolpath postings out on the server is a plus and that'll have to do!

Re: Using shared network drives for storage
You can do it by using symbolic links to point to the network locations.
I used to have my system setup like that when I first started but I soon realised that changes to the tool database are fairly uncommon so copying it manually occasionally was fine and I didn't bother using the links when I upgraded my computers.

You could always just do a remote login to the other computer...

Re: Using shared network drives for storage
I keep all my vectric project files in a shared network folder along with a master tool database. I can work on the files from any of my computers, including my machine controller, and I also manually copy the tool database to each machine. Works well for me.

Personally i keep the CNC air gapped, it is critical to my business, and i can not afford any downtime because of a virus, or ransom ware. Cad/cam done on the desktop, then usb stick to the CNC
