Material size and toolpath origins clashing

Hello,

I'm very new to Cut2d, but not new to CNC and Gcode. The problem I am having is that even when I set the material size and the origin point of my job to the bottom left corner of the material, when I transfer the file to the machine it ignores the material dimensions and starts cutting from X0 Y0 instead of the proper coordinates.

Is there a setting I am missing somewhere???

thanks
Richard.

Are you using the correct post processor for your machine?

Are you sure it's not just going to a home position first? I know some posts do that.

If you are setting the lower left corner in Vectric as the origin - that is X0, Y0 in the program

Then you ALSO set the lower left corner in the machine control as the origin on the actual material, that will be X0, Y0 on the material.

That way - X0 & Y0 is the proper location.

Generally - a program will move the tool to the X0 & Y0 position before it moves to cutting positions.

If you are seeing the tool move to the lower left corner before cutting and above the material - that is correct.

Thanks everyone. What I have found is that the 'Job size' as set in the program (essentially the stock around the finished part) is not recognised automatically in the toolpath calculations. Rather I need to use offsets to position in the material.

Anyway, I have worked out a system that works for me and my machine and have a post processor that works.

Thanks again.
Richard.

The position of the toolpath is set by the position of the vector it's based on.

How about posting two sample files and let us know what post processor you are using?

One file that you figure doesn't work where:
Richard93Vogue wrote:...the 'Job size' as set in the program (essentially the stock around the finished part) is not recognised automatically in the toolpath calculations.
And one file that you figure does work because:
Richard93Vogue wrote:...I need to use offsets to position in the material.
That way people can have a better understanding of what's happening to you. That you have to do some convoluted work-around while others don't is of interest.
