Angled Tool paths

Post by FrancisM »

Possible tool path
Possible tool path
Hi I have a problem
Working in Cut2D Desktop I want to shape the straight section of a guitar neck based around points given by the standard eclipse equation.

Can I specify points directly for Z, Y and X. I want to work with the neck positioned along the Y axis (also central axis of the guitar neck) with a fixed length between start and finish points on the Y axis. Then mirror the tool paths for the other half of the neck?

See attachment: Image is looking down the Z axis, perpendicular to the X/Y plane. Starting at 'O' (origin point off the neck) move to Y1, offset to Y1,X1 move to Y2,X2 cutting down to Z1 depth then repeat for next Zn, Xn, Yn positions.

Is it possible to specify single or multiple tool paths as co-ordinates?
Is there a specific format these should be entered in?

Many thanks

These two illustrations I hope give a better idea of what I'm trying to achieve...

Getting there. Using the ellipse equation has worked for this test, Need to increase the resolution adding more steps...

Hi Francis
I have never used Cut 2D, but how do you do this? Are gadgets enabled in the Desktop version?

Could you please post some details of how you generated your 3D toolpath?

From the images I surmise:

1. there are no 3D toolpaths just a number of 2D ones
2. this was accomplished by manually figuring out the x, y, z, co-ordinates of quadrilateral shapes that are then pocketed to the particular z depth
