joining open vectors
Hi probably a quick problem to resolve. I'm doing a simple design but when I go to the tool path and try to create a pocket I'm getting the message there are ?? open vectors that are being ignored.
I thought by grouping them this would close the vector therefore giving me an area to cut out. this does not seem to be the case, what am I doing wrong? how do I connect these parts so the vectors are joined if going to the group tool is not working?
hope that makes sense
many Thanks
Dave

Re: joining open vectors
I believe this is correct.
Select all
Go to edit objects
bottom left is a rectangle with yellow dots select it
This is the join open vectors tool click it.
This should join all open vectors,
Jeff

Dave, grouping and joining are two different things. This video should help you - https://www.facebook.com/vectric/videos ... 781223253/

Re: joining open vectors
Hi
I've carried out the suggestions and it worked to a degree, selected all, went to the rectangular icon which then states however many vector are open, pressed close and it appeared to work. However when I then went into cut a pocket and selected an area again I got the there are open vectors that will be ignored blah blah blah which will then cut outside the parameters I want.
suggestions?
Adrian I was playing the video which then stopped half way through, I'll try that agien later.

Re: joining open vectors
Once you've done the join you can check on the dialog before closing it if there are any vectors still open. You may need to adjust the tolerance depending on how big the gaps are and you need to ungroup any grouped vectors first.

Re: joining open vectors
You might also check for open vectors. Sometimes one of those tricky little pests hides underneath of your closed contour. I've also found open vectors hiding completely off my material on something that I imported after starting a project.

Re: joining open vectors
how can I identify an open vector?
I'm checking all of the relevant components which all look and appear closed even when checking with the open vector tool, but again when trying to create a pocket cut the warning comes up again??

Re: joining open vectors
Go to the Edit menu, Selection, Select all Open Vectors. The open vectors will then be selected so you can see where they are.

Re: joining open vectors
There's also the case of the open contour having too wide of a gap for the "Join Open Vectors" to work (there is a tolerance). In that case, try joining it with a straight line or an arc.
