Create a Dado

Post by cusoak »

I am designing a boat shape and want to cut dado into the sides for shelves.
I was a able to place the shelves into the sides but am unable to remove the right lines to leave the dado in the side after I move the shelf out of the way.
So can anyone tell me what I need to do to have the dado lines left in place.
Picture attached shows the intersection.
The other question is where the point comes together how do I group the 3 lines together to make the 2 sides.
Thanks Jeff

I have seen that Boat shelf.
But I want to be able to design my own, so I can select the size and number of shelves
So I need help or a link to a tutorial on how to design the Dado slot.
Thanks Jeff

Easiest way is to use the Subtract tool. You'll need to create a copy of the shelf vector as that will be destroyed in the process.

Select the two sides and then the shelf. Click the subtract tool and notches will be left in the sides. It's important select the vectors in the correct order.
