New Tool Database

Post by Jonathan »

Hello All,

I just bought some tools and need some help in order to add these tools in my database. I bought a Spiral Flute Plunge with these specs

Diameter: 1/8''
Cutting Height: 1/2''
Shank: 1/4''
Length: 2''
Max RPM: 28,000

I know how to copy or create a new tool, but i can not figure out where i put my Shank and length dimensions into the newly created tool database.

And the last thing that i need to ask you guys is that can i choose imperial l tools for a job that was design in mm ?

You do not need to enter shank or length.

You only need the cutter diameter 1/8"

You can mix and match dimensions within a job as you see fit so you can use imperial tools in a mm job. I do it all the time. The Post Processor will convert everything to the same units when you save the toolpaths.

You didn't mention what machine controller you are using. Many, including Mach3, LinuxCNC and Pathpilot, have their own tool table that contains the length of each tool. In Pathpilot, for example, you setup the length of each tool on the "Offsets" tab. Note that the tool number in the Vectric tool table must match the corresponding number in the Pathpilot tool table.
