Cut2D V1.5 Released!

Post by BrianM »

Hello all Cut2D Users,

We are delighted to announce the release of Version 1.5 of Cut2D. This is a FREE upgrade for all existing Cut2D owners, even if you bought Cut2D 4 years ago! This release of Cut2D is built off the same code base as VCarve Pro 6.5 and will be able to open files written by VCarve Pro 6.5.

There are many improvements, and the attached "What's New in Cut2D 1.5" PDF file lists them in detail.

The major changes are ...
  • Draw Polyline - Ability to draw lines / polylines
Single Line Fonts - Support for Vectric single line fonts
Text in A Box - Automatically fit text within a vector box
Interactive Text Spacing - change the gaps between characters and words
Curve text around an Arc - Text can be curved interactively around an arc
Windows Explorer Thumbnail Support - for XP, Vista and Windows 7 previews of files can be seen in Explorer
Weld Vectors - Merge overlapping vectors
Updated Tool Database - Support for groups of tools
Quick Engraving Toolpath - for use with diamond drag tools
Allow calculation in edit boxes - use expresions in edit boxes e.g 3/8= instead of entering 0.375
Profile Left and Right for open vectors - Previously only closed vectors allowed profiling either side
Updated DXF/DWG import - updated to match latest versions imported by Aspire and VCarve Pro
Support for more comment data to be output to post processors.(compatible with VCarve Pro 6.5 posts)
The update program can be downloaded from the upgrades page here ...

http://www.vectric.com/WebSite/Vectric/ ... pdates.htm

Download Cut2DV15_UpgradeSetup.exe to your computer from the web page and run it.

You must already have Cut2D 1.1 in English installed on the computer before running the upgrade. The upgrade will install Cut2D v1.5 in a new folder. If you have a non-english version of Cut2D, please contact Vectric support at support@vectric.com with your licence details so that we can send you the required download link.

Importing your existing Tool Database into Cut2D V1.5

The post here ... http://www.vectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9837

Shows the procedure for importing a tool databse from an old version of Aspire into Aspire 3. The procedure is exactly the same for Cut2D, but the default location for your existing tool database on English versions of Windows will be ...

C:\Program Files\Cut2D V1\ToolDatabase

or

C:\Program Files (x86)\Cut2D V1\ToolDatabase - for 64 bit windows.

We will be sending an email to all registered Cut2D users in a few days, but people who visit the forum are getting a chance to upgrade early!

You guys ROCK!!! I can hardly wait to get home and down load this new version. Just in time because I was trying to figure what I could make as awards, for the kids in the robotic team that I mentor, that they hadn't seen before. Now I know.

If you're coming to Ann Arbor in June, I'll be more than glad to buy the team a round of their favorite beverage. Thanks for the early/late Christmas present. :D

Excellent news.
Though I upgraded to Aspire, I still like to use cut 2d for alot of the more simple things.

Hi Doug,
Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to make Ann Arbor this year, but thanks for the offer of a drink!

Super!!!

No more drawing boxes and deleting 3 side to get a line, thanks for this one alone!
I'll have to play with the rest and I can't wait to see the other upgrades.

Many Thanks

I have tried to upgrade to version 1.5 but when I run it, my Tool Database is greyed out. I can still run the v1.0 just fine. How can I get v1.5 to import the Tool DB?

Jason,

Brian has covered that in the first post above.

Ask if it doesn't work for you.

The first post had a link to another post. In that other post the procedure requires that the Tool Database option to be available. Mine is greyed out and so I can't follow that procedure.

Disregard. I figured out my issue. It was user error.
