If you just need the vectors, Digital Vector Maps has free downloads of blank maps in both Adobe Illustrator (.ai) and vectorized pdf formats.

Thanks, Ron. How do I render the vectors into a dxf format? This might be a dumb question, but I'm a newbie.

Hi Steve,

Welcome! The only dumb questions here are the ones that aren't asked! :)
I guess the first question I need to ask is why you need it in dxf format. Do you plan on working with it in another program? Cut2d should directly import dxf, eps, ai and pdf files that contain vectors. Also, if you import the ai or pdf file into Cut2d, you have the option to export the selected vectors in dxf format.

Hope this helps,
Ron

Holy cow that was easy!

I imported the .ai and loaded the gcode and its running now.

By definition, I have plenty of dumb questions remaining, thanks!

Thanks, again Ron.

I made a small walnut candy dish is the shape of texas for my close friend in Waco. I hope he's impressed.

you live in a wonderful area. My wife and I used to be regular visitors to Napa/Sonoma BK (before kids).

Cheers,

I have downloaded a state file from the site Digital VectorMap and have an .ai and a .pdf file. I can import it into VCarve but the toolpath shows it with the state name carved in the center and a carved outline. All I want is the outline of the state to make a blank plaque cut out using the TAB feature. What program do I need to edit the file? (New at this)

You don't need any other program. Just click on the bits you don't want to select them and press delete to remove them and then re-calculate the toolpaths.
