Tool Bit Feed Rate For Different Woods
Tool Bit Feed Rate For Different Woods
I am a newbee at using CNC machines and currently using a Piranha CNC and Cut2D V8 (which just came out and I got a free upgrade to it as I just bought in March) and have a question concerning the feed rates of various tool bits. I am assuming that the harder the wood, the feed rate on the tool bit I am using (say a mill bit to cut out a sign that is one inch deep) the slower the feed rate should be? I know the depth rate for milling should be less than the normal rate (instead of the norm of 0.125 maybe .0625). Appreciate any info on this

Yes, as a rule of thumb, the harder the material then the slower the feed rate with everything else being equal (number of teeth/flutes on the bit, rpms etc).
Chip load charts will give you a rough starting point but it's one of those things that you just have to learn with a CNC via experience.
