Exact same method except my 3d printer is additive in that it builds the lithophane in layers. While the CNC is subtractive and cuts the material down in layers. One plus with the 3d printed lithophanes is I have a ton of colors to chose from.

No I actually use simplify 3d for processing my stl files and a rider program from thingiverse for lithophanes. I have not tried a lithophane in Vcarve as yet. Been looking at getting photo Vcarve for that reason though..
have a look at Ransen Photo to mesh software on the internet you can 3d print lithos onto cups or vases save as stl file cheap to buy think i will give it a go stl files imported back into vcarve could do some interesting work in wood me thinks
