one of my first Litho's
This is the first Lithophane I did with people and it has turned out real well. getting the lighting right for a photo is a pain. I am going to be posting one of my scene Litho's to this thread in a bit as the one I did last night cut a bit deep and did not turn out well (live and learn).
I am really pleased with how this turned out. It is in 5mm thick type 1212 perspex which I surfaced the working area down to 3.25mm and then did one pass with a 2mm ballnose endmill and then finished with a .8mm ballnose. I am really pleased with it. I did a .45mm increase in depth from the 2mm to the .8mm. Hope you folks enjoy.
If anyone has some information on how to photograph these things and get a good picture, please share the information.

Michael,
Your litho came out great. Taking pics are hard, just have to keep trying like I do. I take my pics without flash and a steady hand. Wanna see more of your work.

Re: one of my first Litho's
First off my apologies for being so long in posting new pic's. Been busy, so here is some new pictures of Litho and bas-relief that I have been doing with my wife. We are using PVC and working on getting the funds for Aspire to make things a bit more simple. Currently it takes a good bit of time to get the bas-relief images to something that will look good in PVC. we are also working the cameo you will see here which is something we are working on as the wife does not like the finished product and is working on improving it in CorelDRAW.
So here they are: The above was from a dark photo and while there are things we want to do better I pretty happy with the results. This is a repeat of an earlier one but done in Corian as all these are. Beautiful place in Italy that we once lived near. The Cameo I was speaking of unlit The same back lit again not the best and as you folks know these don't photograph easily.
I will post some of the bas-relief work a bit later as this was a break from work.

Here is the rest of the Litho's and Bas-reliefs. I have the bas-reliefs back lit as well as without to show the image you get both ways.
Will need to add another post for the rest.

Re: one of my first Litho's
VERY nice
Re photos
I have my camera on a tripod and the picture on a stand with a tight groove carved in the bottom for support.
That way there is no distracting background and the perspective is always square.
Cheers

Re: one of my first Litho's
Wolfie,
I will take that on board and cut a couple of stands to make it easier on photography. Also working on getting a real digital camera, as currently we have either good quality film or stand crud cell phone camera.
Tony,
Thanks we are working on improving it and saving up the funds to get Aspire for some additional options (have been playing with the demo version).

Great Cameo and litos.
Was the cameo all generated in PVC? Could you describe the process.
Thanks Bill

Bill,
Yes that was done in PVC but with a lot of gray scale work in CorelDRAW X6 Suite. It takes a bit to get everything just right.

Re: one of my first Litho's
Those turned out well. I finally did a litho that turned out (not too bad). After having PhotoVcarve for many years I finally finished one. All comments and suggestion are always greatly appreciated. I imported the image into PVC, set material to 1/4-3.0 x 4.0 used an 1/8 inch ballnose set at 6% step over, depth was set to 0.21 inches. Material is Starboard that I milled down to 1/4 inch thickness. This project only took 40 minutes to complete, I am happy with the end results.
HAPPY CUTTING

Re: one of my first Litho's
You are asking the wrong person, I am color blind. My image, to me, resembles the sepia style of photo. And if you are asking about the other lithos I apologize for tooting my horn.

AHHA
So you used a sepia coloured piece of material?
I like it.
No need to apologise, I like them all.
Still haven't been able to work out how to get a decent picture out of PVC
Cheers

Ok lithos ARE VERY addictive. Attached are images of another one. This turned out well, I used Corian sample piece. I believe it is Cameo White for color. Now off to do another hehe.
