Here is my first go at the Rooster with Cut3d.

25mm MDF, cut with a 6mm ball nose for roughing 40% stepover and finishing 10%.
Once tabs cut off, stands 150mm high.

One thing I would say is try to leave a little more material than I did arround the outer edges and put in as many tabs as you can handle, the thicker the better.
I left 1mm for the finishing pass but will try 0.5mm next time, as there was a little wobble while finishing the final side.

Hi Paul,

On my table I have a Datum Bar that runs the full length along the X axis and stands 3mm higher than the bed surface.
I first cut the blank to the exact size as I had specified in c3d. Placed the material lined up with 0,0 and put the white material behind as an additional datum point so I could not push the blank any further up the X axis. ( Hope that made sense?)
For the second side I just flipped the piece over in the Y direction.

However,
I will not be doing it this way again. Being a small piece, with not much material left around the outer edges, it was pretty difficult to hold down.
The only critical dimension is in the "Y". The "X" can be as long as you like. Then cut off the waste after machining both sides. (Gives more room for fixing securely.)

If you look closely at the base of the Rooster in the "One longer piece is better .jpg." You can see a small step. My datum bar is obviously out of possition. Must now do something about that.
