A couple of quick projects

Post by joenagel »

Here are a couple of items I machined with the new Cut3D software. These where machined using the 2 sided option.

I'm new to 3D and cnc, but I found that the software is intuitive and easy to use like all of the other Vectric products.

I feel like a kid in a candy store discovering all the features this software has to offer.

Wow! First Try

Post by lpcsales »

Ok, got the Cut3D and gave it a try. I went for the 2 sided option with the bowl sample file first. I reduced the size down so it would be quick and it turned out pretty good. I did have a problem in that 'I' rotated the part in the wrong direction across the grain so the stem on the bowl broke off on the bottom side roughing cut. But...it was fun watching the stem bob up and down in my dust collection hose for awhile. hehe.
The main thrust of this was to figure out the strategy and get familar with the software. The software worked flawlessly for me. No problems at all and the interface was very clean, bug free and intuitive. Great job fellows! Btw, I used a glue-up of some cheap pine I had done a week or so ago and was pretty impressed with the finish quality I got. HeHe..notice the biscuits that got dug out..

This is the software I've been looking for the last 6 months (since I got my shopbot) and it will certainly do the job+. What a great piece of software! Wow!

Tony, Brian...you wouldn't have Queen Elizabeths email address would you? If you do send it on, I think we need to nominate you for Knighthood..or something..Isn't that what you do on the other side of the pond for valor and greatness?

I have a prediction...ArtCam will be on a 'sale' within the next 3 months!

Tony, Brian,..and whoever else was involved...thank you and you did a GREAT JOB! I applaud you!

Btw Joe, you stuff looks really GOOD! WOW!

Everybody...spread the word...there's a new King on the hill now!

joenagel, you wouldn't want to share the file for the key would you? Pretty please? Since I am a locksmith by trade that would be fun to make. I know I could make one from scratch. But yours looks so nice.

Ok, what kind of file is this? I can't seem to open. Comes up as a cerificate file or something like that.

Hi
You will need to open it in cut3d (file, open...) rather than clicking on the file.
Windows by default has .stl set as a secure shell certificate, you can change this assignment if your slightly pc savvy.

Ok, that made sense. I haven't used Cut3D yet, didn't even think of that. Thanks.

Bart,

The stuff I used is made by Dow Chemical and called Scoreboard, I'm assuming it is polystyrene, but it doesn't say anything on the board to verify this.

I use this board because it's cheap and I can machine it at about 8 IPS for mockups and trial runs.

Here is the stl file for the cone, the tip does not have the little curl like a Dairy Queen cone would.

I'm just entering the world of 3D modeling so these are just rough models. I have spent 25 years in the commercial graphic field, with the last 16 years in computer graphics, but this 3D stuff is a completely different animal. Lots to learn, but at least I’m comfortable with the computer end of things.

Joe...

Thank You for the cone.

I like you am now finding it more and more important to be able to
design in 3D. What software are you using, and what are the strong
points about your selection.

I'm seeing more and more 3D software being developed for gaming, but
when I look at them, they seem to be hard to learn, and use for the things
I would like to be able to create, plus I think I really need to start looking
real hard at my own drawing skills, and figure out how to make them better.

Thanks agian, and Merry Christmas !!

Cheers
