3d pinewood derby car made from Sketchup Pro model download

Post by mccoy178 »

A fellow teacher of mine wanted to carve a camaro for his sons pinewood derby race. So he grabbed the full scale model off of Sketchup, scaled it down, and exported it as a .dxf. I imported it into Cut3d and about an hour later it was done. Here are some pics for your enjoyment:

It was hot glue. It held very very well. So well that it will be my go to in the future.

That is some very good work, Ben.

Most of my work involves holding down pieces that measure 5X2X3/8". I use hot glue with great sucess, but i am using a 250 watt glue gun. After routering, I squirt a little denatured alcohol around the edges, allowing a few seconds for it to wick under. Then I ease a putty knife under them and they pop right off.

Joe

Joe,
What type of material is your spoilboard?
Does the alcohol soften the spoilboard after many uses?

'Morning, Dan,
My actual spoilboard is extira, but I have a 24X48" piece of 3/4 Corian I bolt on for each type of grip. I have noticed that after about 5 years, there is a tendency of the Corian to get a little chalky...not very much, but just enough to notice.

Joe
