Machining of Romanesque Style Column using SLICE function

Post by Khalid »

The very first day i got my CUT3D, i pushed it to the limit and machined one of the Romanian column 3D model...
You can find the details in following thread
http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52033

G-code of all top portion slices (Qty:04 each 11.5mm thick)of the column were created with the help of CUT3D and now its the time for the other great product from Vectric the VCARVE PRO. It will be used to nest all slices on a single sheet..(Note: we can individualy machine each slice into CUT3D also)...You can see following figure after arranging the slices and simulation preview.

After a lot of dust, the test pieces are ready But i had a mistake i checked the MDF piece as 11.5mm but it was 0.5mm larger in thickness. so my slices sticked to the board... but this was my first experiment with CUT3D.. and i am very happy with it..nice detailing it done..

Next time i will keep the stepover value 12% for finish machining and try to use small 3mm ball nose tool for good detailing... and and and i will never try on MDF

and it took about 1 hr 42 minutes to complete against estimated time of 1 hr 38 minutes by Vcarve pro. with scale factor of 2.00.
Height of the column is 320mm (12.6 inches) and dia is about 64mm(2.5")

MCCoy:).. I have no dust collector installed at my machine.. MDF making a lot of dust and the air from my router spreading this dusty air all around my house.. Currently u can see my wood work... Wood donot produce dust ..;)
I love to work in some healthy environment:)

Best Regards
Khalid

NOTE: I am hobbiest and the machine is located inside the room of my house... I spent but not got a single buck out of it yet;)

A while ago, i machined the base of romanseque column...I used single tool 6mm ball nose, for my finishing and rough operation for all 08 slices. it took 2 Hrs 27 Minutes to complete this job..
No sanding.. straight out from the machine.. My machine bed was not level...so i have some problems...

Hey Khalid,

Very cool at the slicing work!
Where did you get your 3D models?
Did you model it yourself, is so, what software?

Please post more of your 3d work!

Thanks...

One of the CD was gifted me by my internet friend living abroad... i don't know which volume was that...

Hi Khalid,

I cant believe you haven't made any money! The items you've posted here and on cnczone are really great. You should have sold that door you carved, it was fantastic. :)

Can someone explain this to me. I see this was designed in Vectic 3d, but then cut in Vcarve Pro. How did you get the slices into Vcarve Pro. I've been messing with this for the last hour, and I cannot get it to work? Thanks so much for any help you can give on how this is done.

hello neoteric...

this design was made in other program, and the slicing was made with cut3d...
aspire able to make some model like this... all exemption, one side at time...

vcarve pro can process bitmap, and can make 2d and 2.5 d machining... also vcarve can read files from vectorart3d,that computed with free machinist or with cut3d..

this model was sliced, and toolpath computed with cut3d... vcarve can position, scale, rotate ... for simpler machining...

in vacarve pro, open new drawing, click import and select model...

i hope it helps you...

thanks
viktor

neo, shy of actually creating or changing the 3d file and tabs you can do all of this with vcarve pro!!
