Captain Smith
Captain Smith
Hi all this is my latest carving I had the model produced by Tom of the model club it is first class work from a photograph of Captain Smith who was Captain of the Titanic, I also had a model done of the Titanic and I will post this when done.
The carving is 90mm x 100mm x 10mm deep it is cut from plywood as the first carving using a 3mm end mill for roughing and a 1.5mm ball end for the finishing. it took around 1hr to complete.
I will be using this model to carve the detail into the timbers of R.M.S.OLYMPIC that I own and was the sister ship to Titanic.

Hi the step over was 30% just to see what result I got I will try a 10% for the Oak and Mahogany in the interest of detail at the xepense of speed.
Here is the first cut on R.M.S Olympic again in plywood I cut this a little less that the full depth with the same parameters as the bust, when I cut in hardwood I will cut to full depth and there will be more detail in it such as the portholes and deck level detail

Hi Nick. I did not own the Olympic I owned a lot of the fixtures from her.
The Olympic was stripped of her fittings in 1935 at Jarrow on the Tyne.
A paint company in Haltwhistle owned by Smith and Walton of Hadrian Paints (later to be Crown Paints)
were building an office block and Canteen and they bought a lot of the panelling and fittings and used them to fit out the offices and Canteen.
I bought the site in 2003 along with the fittings and decided to auction off the fittings in 2004.
The timbers I have left from the auction I make items from them and sell manly on Ebay.
