Sliced Fox !!

Post by Paul_n »

One of the features in Cut3D that I really enjoy is the ability to make a relief carving that is larger in height then my CNC and bits could cut.

That is using the “slice” option.

The ‘Fox Head’ relief from 3D Relief Club, looked like a good file, as there were no undercuts, plus using the “slice” option, I could get a close to life like model.

The wood is 1.5” oak, which allowed for a 3” finished model.

Also, using VCarve Pro, I was able to load both slice objects, and place them within the stock, also combine both object tool paths into a single ShopBot cut file.

The rough pass was cut with a ¼” end mill.
The finish pass was cut with a 1/8” ball conical bit.
Total cut time was 3.5 hours.

A fun project, with great results.

Thanks Guys !!

Hi Will,

Welcome to the forum!

There is a video on slicing at the following link. It should be a good starting point. Just scroll down the page and you will find it.

Hey Will....

(( thanks for helping out Tim ))

Will, I think the video will answer most of your questions, if not
please post another here...

Only other thing I could say right now, is to start out with something
rather simple, till you get the feel....

One last thing... If your thinking about a large project, make your slice
a thick as possible, as a bunch of thin slices get a bit much to deal with...

Welcome to the 'family'...
