Pinewood derby car, I cut this for a co-worker

Post by DavidCousins »

Here's a link to some pictures of wood I cut last night. A young fellow at work is doing the father and son soapbox derby thing with the scouts. Both he and his son are building one. I suggested that he design his derby on the CAD machine and I'd cut it out for him. He did, and I did. He likes the Starwars Intergalactic cruisers, and this what he came up with. Here are pictures of the cutting.

Very COOL!
Be sure to post pictures of the completed car (and associated trophies!).
Nice approach to the traditional soapbox car (Up here we call them Cub Cars - for the Cub Scouts)

I gave the lumber to it's new owner with a request for a photo of the finished product. I didn't think of the trophy photo. I'm going to need that too.

Corrected the title to Pinewood derby.

Your are correct, I was calling it by the wrong name. It's called the Pinewood derby and Cub Car derby. I did a flickr.com search and discovered that soapbox refers to the go-cart sized hill racers. It's been a long time since I was a kid and then I had two girls, so I didn't get to build for them either.

Nice work Dave, looks like there's plenty of room to put bottle rockets in the tailpipes  :D
