Made this recently

Post by js11110 »

Hey guys! Made this recently for a friends restaurant. Modeled the columns myself and cut them and the flourishes at the top and bottom in Cut3D. Cut the rest using VCP. Thanks everyone for your constructive criticism in an earlier post. My friend loved it and almost cried when he saw it. Thought I'd share a picture of it I took when I went there for dinner yesterday.

H Jason,

Excellent work and a great example of how each of the software products can be used for different parts of the design.

Thanks for posting the photo.

Tony

PS Would you mind if we add the picture to the Web Site Gallery?

Jason,
Now that I've started using 3Dcuts, I realize how much effort you went through to make this signboard. Beautiful!

I have a few questions,
1 What are the dimensions?
2. How long did it take to cut the 3Dcuts part?
2.a. What bits did you use?
3. How many separate components? Did you glue the assembly together after cutting all the components? I'm counting 4 pieces glued together after the cutting.

Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the kind comments! to answer your questions Dave:

1. The dimensions of the white board in the middle are 22" X 17". I never measured the overall, but I would guess 24" X 36"
2. The columns took about 4 hours a piece and the top and bottom flourishes took about 2 hours apiece on my homemade machine. (I can only go 60 inches a minute without losing steps.)
2a. The columns were roughed with a 1/4" ball and finished with a 1/8" ball. The flourishes were cut with a 1/8" ball.
3. There are 4 components glued together, and then I flipped the whole piece over and milled a pocket to accept the board in the middle and also put in some keyway slots for hanging.

Again, thanks for all the positive comments... this was by far the most intensive piece I've done to date and its nice to know that people appreciate the effort it took.
:D

Bang up job, Jason!

Thanks for taking some of our suggestions into account. Your friend should be mighty proud to have such a fine piece of woodwork to complement his new restaurant's decor. Results like that should get you more than a few referrals.

Keep up the fantastic work,
HayTay
