Cutout paths

Post by chipmeister »

I have been trying some test files, and have a question about cutout paths. If I try to cut out the interior of the letter O, it will only produce that interior profile path on the roughing step and not on the cutout step.

This is the dxf I was using, it is a sign that has 2 holes through it where the O's go. I tried setting the Material to leave 1/4 inch below the model but couldn't get it to produce the interior profile cutout paths.

Is there another way to do it?

Hi chipmeister,

From your image it looks like the cut out toolpath is running around the outer edge of the material rectangle.

To calculate a cut out pass around the design select - Use Model Silhouette - on Step 2.

The Cut Plane (Step 3) also needs to pass through the letters in your design to calculate
the boundary for cutting out the shapes.

Tony, I gave it a shot and that did the trick. Very cool.

The paths are created now, and down to 1/4 below the model. The Delete Waste Material does not work on that material in the middle, could be my ATI video card. But the paths are there, so thats good enough for me.

Thanks for the quick response.
