guitar plans

Post by raye321 »

Hi, I am using Vectric VCarve pro 8.5. I would like to know if anyone knows where I can download files for a vintage Les Paul guitar. And a tutorial also. I am not that familiar working in 3D. I downloaded a file from GrabCad but was not able to import it into the Vcarve software. I went to modeling, clicked on import a component or 3D model but it would not show it in my download files.
Thanks,
Ray

Did you unzip the GrabCAD file?

Is there a compatible 3D file inside the zip? A lot of GrabCAD stuff is in formats that Vectric can't use.

There are several Les Paul body models on Grabcad. Only a few have the actual STL file included. What you would need to do is convert them to an STL in solidworks or another cad program. Since you state you do not have much experience with 3d I would opt to go onto thingiverse.com and search Les Paul
There are so STL files on there that Vcarve would import with no issues.

Another good starting point would be look through all of the tutorials provided with the software. Even better to do the tutorials along with the instructor.
This will put you way ahead when you start importing files to cut in VC.

A Les Paul body alone is a pretty daunting task in Vcarve if you are just start as it involves double sided carving and numerous separate toolpaths.

Most of all have fun learn the software and start putting your knowledge gained to task.

It wouldn't be in your Documents folder unless you put it there. By default files downloaded from the internet go into your Downloads folder.

A zip file won't show. You have to extract the STL or other file from it first before a Vectric program will be able to see it.
