Request for Assistance

Post by JHSheley »

I have trouble with some recently purchased some STL files that I would like to use with CUT3D. Please respond if you know if you know what mistakes I am doing. If you know of a professional editing firm that generates files for use in CUT3D then please contact me.

The image “Desired_Result” is what I want. The endmill touches only the petals of the flower and the dimples. All other material remains.

When I load and execute the attached STL file, I observe the image “Normal_mode”. The end mill removes material that I want to remain.

When I apply “silhouette” mode I observe the image “Silhouette_mode”. The margins of the silhouette remove too much material. See margins and center of petals. The dimples are a mess.

Will someone please tell me what software features I must enable or disable to generate the desired effect?

Is there no way to generate the desired effect from the attached STL file?

John

PS Forum settings forced me to compress the STL file to a "zip" format.

It's your model. STL files are polygonal meshes---in your case triangular (see STL viewed in Rhino image). As such they'll always be faceted. Each triangle in the image is a flat plane.

The only way to make the model smoother is to specify a higher density triangular mesh when saving STL from the original file. Even still, it will be faceted just less so.

If you have the choice between STL and OBJ go fo the latter.

By the way. Where did the image you listed as "Desired" come from?

Adze_cnc,

I thank you for your reply.
The "desired_image" is the the desired product that I would like to generate. The problem is that when I enter the STL image into CUT3D, the end mill removes material from areas that I want untouched. Please see the image "Normal_mode_problems".

If you have CUT3D will you, please, tell me how to do generate the "desired_image" from the attached STL image? I am not the most proficient user of CAD programs. If this is not possible, then please tell me so.

Make sure you have the material set to be thicker than the actual model otherwise it will be machined away at the edge of the shape. It's a physical impossibility for it not to do that.

Setting the Use Model Silhouette and the cut plane so the model is just under the top of the material will give you the attached image which seems to match up with your desired result.

Claude,

Il suffit de parcourir le site, les manuels sont là:
http://shop.nextwaveautomation.com/shop/

Choisir le lien Downloads, puis CNC Shark.

Je ne copie pas le lien direct, cela m'a l'air d'une adresse dynamique qui ne fonctionnera donc pas.
Best regards
