cut3d vs. aspire
cut3d vs. aspire
I have had vcarve pro for a while now and really like the program
recently I am in need of 2 sided machining of 3d parts, which I understand cut3d dose
I am also interested in getting aspire, dose aspire do 2 sided machining also or would I also need cut3d to do that.

Re: cut3d vs. aspire
Yes, Aspire does two side machining. It is just a procedure that Vectric products can do. You can do it as two separate halves (front and back) and glue them together, or with a single piece of wood that uses alignment pins to keep it aligned when you flip the wood over to cut the second side. There is a training video for the latter method.

Re: cut3d vs. aspire
I still use Cut3D for 2 and 4 sided machining in order to use the over cutting ability that Aspire does not provide. It would certainly be nice if it were added to Aspire,

What do you mean by over cutting?

Re: cut3d vs. aspire
This is the over cut feature in Cut3D. Maybe you can tell me an easy way of doing this in Aspire.

Re: cut3d vs. aspire
What version of Cut3D do you have? The version I have (1.025) doesn't have that section which is why I didn't recognise the term.
It has a Cut Plane Position in Model section instead which Aspire has as well.

You need to update! I've got 1.110 that came out in Nov 12, 2007.

Re: cut3d vs. aspire
Doesn't the cut plane do the same thing as the the overcut though? It would seem a bit strange for Aspire to have a feature from an older version.
Mine is the demo version off the website as I no longer have a Cut3D license since upgrading. I just use the demo for helping people out. Not sure why the demo isn't the very latest version.

Why would you not still have a Cut3d license if you once had one? It doesn't expire!

Re: cut3d vs. aspire
When you upgrade to another package it does. For instance if you upgrade from VCarve to Aspire you no longer have a VCarve license.
I bought VCarve, Cut3D and PhotoVCarve donkeys years ago and then did an upgrade deal to Aspire. To be honest I don't remember if Cut3D was part of that or not so I might still have a license but I've never had the need to use it since getting Aspire.

Re: cut3d vs. aspire
I also have Cut3D / V-Carve Pro / PhotoVcarve.
When I upgraded to Aspire I could only upgrade from one of the three - so I upgraded from V-Carve Pro. At that point I still have Cut3D and PhotoVcarve.
I sold my right to Cut3D and transferred the license.
I still have the PhotoVcarve. With a $50 transfer fee it's not really worth it to sell it, so I will just keep it.
You probably still have the license for Cut3D, you could sell it and transfer the license.

Re: cut3d vs. aspire
So I got both trials for cut3d and aspire.
In aspire I cant see that it programs both top and bottum like cut3d, do you have to do each side seperatly ?
