can't import toolpath

Post by mountaincraft »

I was trying out a simple test file

1)Created simple model in Cinema 4D
2) Exported as .STL
3)Imported into Cut3D
4) Set up and previewed file
5) Selected Mach3 ATC inch post processor and saved tool path as a single file to desktop
6) Created new file in V Carve Pro
7) Tried to import file (Import photo V Carve or Cut 3D tool path), but file does not show up in file selector
8 ) tried adding .v3d extension to file and still didn't show up

What am I doing wrong? I have been able to successfully import 3D machinist toolpaths in the past... but I am new to Cut 3D... shouldn't it be the same process?

It's not the Mach3 toolpath file that you import it's the actual Cut3D file itself.

Once you've created all your toolpaths within Cut3D you then save the Cut3D file using the File/Save menu or icon. This creates the .V3D with whatever name you gave it.

It's that file that you import into VCarve using the Import PhotoVCarve or Cut3D tool path.

Hmmm.. is that different than machinist 3D?
Is machinist 3D exporting a tool path or a v3d file?

This makes sense, but I'm just wondering how I got hung up doing the same process I did in Machinist 3D...

thanks, off to try it..

okay, that worked...

There's another issue that I have to resolve involving why the entire work piece was involved as opposed to the model itself... but that might be something I did in C4D...

Off to play with it.. I'll be back if I can't resolve it..

Thanks!

(do want to understand the differences in how Machinist 3D exports files verses Cut3D though....)

It's the same thing for Machinist. You save the file itself rather than the toolpaths. The difference between the two is that machinist has the Save button on the last step whereas Cut3D doesn't.
