STL files

Post by Claude »

Why is it that the STL file always have to kind of scan the object or will do the full size object with multiple pass in the air without touching the wood???

Claude,
Can you show a side view of this tool path.. ??
Or slightly tip the model so it can be seen from an angle.
Thanks,
Michael

Right,I don't see the air passes that you refer too.
From the top view it may appear that way but the side view does not show that.
Optical illusion ?
Have you cut this ?

Hi Michael,

No I do not have my Stinger yet.
But I have been told by the creator that it is only run just over the work area. That it does not touch the project except for making the design.

My guess is that he has the machine not correctly setup.
In all of the Vectric products , what you see in the preview machining is what you get...
What does your Preview ( step #6) show.
Here's a sample of what I see.

Hi,

The final result is ok but the CNC will work for nothing during the free pass.

Claude, Using Partworks3D here, but it's supposed to be the same program. Under "material size and margins" are you selecting the "use model silhouette"? Don't know if that's what you meant, but should look like this.

Claude, I don't think the view you posted represents what you are seeing. Can you post the other axis either X or Y? or a perspective view would work.

I also noticed that your toolpath is extending beyond the model edge. each time it does this the program is registering zero and will go to rapid Z. If you look at Mike's example his toolpath is not extending beyond the edge of the model. I'm not sure why this is working out this way. What happens if you calculate the toolpah in the Y axis?

Hi Esteeme,

The final result is sometime good but sometime will scratch a square on the wood instead of doing a dish.

Claude

PS: its all theoretic I do not have my Stinger till the week of May 12.

Hi Claude,

You just jumped from Cut3D to Vcarve. Your V-carve file looks fine. If you are getting an impression where the toolpath is you may have your material setup below the surface or the model is taller than the dish is deep.

Can we get back to the air movements? If you Post a pic of a perspective from Cut3D I think we will be able to see what your talking about.

Okay, Claude,
Here’s my final guess.

In Cut3D you Z Zeroed off the top of the spoil board ... BUT... who ever is trying this for you is Z Zeroing from the top of the material.

What do you think guys ???

I think you should wait until you've actually got your machine and see what happens when it's properly configured and zeroed properly. At the moment you're theorising what may or may not happen based on the experiences of a 3rd party.
