I'd like to VCarve a 3D image as a 2D image, is this possible?
If so how would I do it. I have Aspire 4.0.

Hmmm, that's an interesting question. You could of course vector trace the 3d image. Maybe there is a way to generate a 2d image in Corel or Autocad...but that's beyond me.

you may be able to output the 3D image as a grayscale bitmap, and then use the 'trace bitmap' function to convert it to vectors for v-carving. That's about the only way I can think you could do it.

Jim, could you explain what exactly this means? I'm not seeing it, but I'm only on my third coffee today...Lameiii wrote:I'd like to VCarve a 3D image as a 2D image, is this possible?

What I'd like to be able to do is take a 3D image such as the interlaced hearts and V-carve it ~0.04 deep onto the surface of a project.

So with a 3D structure like a dome, you would want to cut this as a dish, perhaps with the fixed depth of 0.04" ?

My understanding is he wants to cut it flat-bottomed 0.04" deep.
2D look.
Cheers

Woliffe has it right. I want to cut it flatbottomed at 0.04

Wouldn't you just trace the vectors, then cut them as 2D with an endmill?

Re: Can 3D image be v-carved as a 2D image
You don't need to output it, just select the component in the 2d view and select trace bitmap. The 2d view is already a grayscale heightmap. Not that I'm advising this method. It seems like it would be easier to just draw and node edit the vectors from scratch.gordread wrote:you may be able to output the 3D image as a grayscale bitmap, and then use the 'trace bitmap' function to convert it to vectors for v-carving.
