Ramping cuts in 3D models

Post by Jim Krager »

I have several Vector Art 3d models that I use with Cut3D and VCarve Pro, but I can't find any way to ramp into the roughing cuts. Which I have had issues with the bit digging in or sideways movement even when reducing the feedrate to 20% and also reducing the pass depth to .0625. This is already slows down the cut time any more would make it to slow and costly, when a ramping cut would make so I could speed it up and save on wearing out bit to fast also. Anyone have any ideas? It would be a nice addition to Cut3D.

Usually when I am cutting a 3d model, I will start with a 2d profile cut around the outside to the depth of the model. That way the roughing tool and the finishing tool can have an easier time starting "in the groove". As I recall, this tip originally came from Tim Merrill (thanks, Tim).
