Help a newbie out

Post by Mduncan »

Hello folks!

Finally after some time, I convinced my school that we needed a CNC machine for CNC
projects for the kids in class and so forth... We ended up with a Probotix V90 and vectric Cut3D
and PhotoCarve....

I have dabbled with them some... but just a question....

Can I cut out parts etc like Cut2d using these programs? (I had no choice in programs the district purchased)

I want to be able to make a part in solidworks and then export a STL
and use that to simply cut out the part and machine the various screw holes etc.

Something simlar to this:

Help me out :P

If you're going to do a lot of stuff like that it may well be worth getting the school to buy Cut2D as well. Machining that sort of thing as a 3D job is going to take massively longer than it would as a 2D job leading to more wear and tear on the machine and cutting tools. Not to mention the electricity costs of running the machine for far longer than it needs to.
