Poplar tribal mask

Post by Xxray »

Here is a mask that I cut in poplar, about 4x12.
Don't often stain my designs, but I stained this one for a change of pace. Left the uncut wood block unstained then gloss clear coated the whole thing, so it has a nice 2 tone appearance.

Bout a 20 minute rough with a .25 end mill, and 90 minute finish with .9 tapered ballnose.
Probably could have gotten away with no rough with poplar, which is pretty soft ,,, But I cut the model pretty deep into the .80 material, as you can see, and I figured better safe than sorry.
