Cedar is probably one of the last things 3D makers think of when thinking of material for models, but I've always wanted to give it a try.
Glad I did, some pretty wild grain patterns, and overall pleasing look. Shapes very well ... The knot, at first I was not going to include it, but I thought it would give the piece character, so long as it didn't fracture while cutting. Didn't want it on the face though, the location worked out just right.

Re: Cedar Jesus
Very true, the pleasant aroma is an added bonus.
Creates a very fine dust though ,,All in all, I'm impressed cedar.
Shapes nicely, easily available and fairly cheap.

Re: Cedar Jesus
Nice work Doug,
What finish did you use?
What is the size of the project?
What tooling did you use?
I know I ask a lot of questions.

Re: Cedar Jesus
Model is about 10x6".
I started a rough pass with a 1/4 ball nose, but I only ran it to 25% or so. After that, it was taking nothing off except at the edges, just a waste of time & electricity. So I aborted the rough and went right to the finish, which I used a 1/8 tapered spiral for, at 8% stepover. Took about 90 minutes, was well satisfied with the result.
I used 2 coats of walnut stain, with light sanding in between coats. Was going to clear coat, but it sure looked glossy enough to me without it.
