Cut this out of 3/4 blue foam, and I wanted to find out how it looked with a back light.
Well, I found out - Looks pretty eerie, definitely an eye catcher.
This ones pretty large, about 12x7 ,,, And I cut it pretty much as if it was wood.
Used a roughing pass with a 1/4 endmill, then a finish with 1/8 ballnose. Took about 2.5 hours all told, not bad.

If you are going to backlight it, why not cut it out as a Lithophane? I bet it would look awesome.
